Tenacious Demo is the first known Tenacious D release, produced by Andrew Gross. It is unknown when it was originally made and released, as various sources conflict, however, it is most likely produced around 1995.

A reissue was announced in September 2021, remixed by John Spiker. The original and reissue can be differentiated between John Spiker being credited on the reissue, and a different phone number. The reissue was released as the Super Power Party Pack alongside a CD reissue of the Tribute single. The cassette was released digitally alongside the reissued Tribute single as Tribute EP.

Trivia[]

  • According to Andrew Gross, this was partially recorded at The Actors' Gang Theater Company in Los Angeles, California. The other half of the recording was recorded at somebody's house since the theater's studio was too booked up for them to finish the recording. It was released to record labels thereafter. Gass claims that they printed a small box full of them. It is unknown how many still exist, presuming the record labels may have disposed of them.
  • Some old forum posts claim that the band retained some copies to sell at their shows during the 1990s.
  • Three of the four songs on this release were re-recorded and released on Tenacious D and The Pick of Destiny.
  • The third track contains a small skit before the song, it is very reminiscent to the skit that features on Tenacious D's self-titled album, "Friendship Test". The reissue contains a previously unused take replacing it.
  • The "Stairway to Heaven" section of Tribute is removed from the reissue, most likely due to licensing reasons.
  • The original remains one of, if not, the hardest Tenacious D release to locate for collectors.
